HIGH POINT — Jonathan Charles’ new Barcelona collection being launched the first week of August bears classic traditional forms that have been updated for today’s marketplace, combining fancy face veneers and metals, marble and leather for a sophisticated yet livable aesthetic.
The 28-piece collection is its second summer product launch and includes three pieces of upholstery — a sofa and two different chairs — with the remainder spread across bedroom, dining room, occasional and accent furniture.
Made with bleached and figure walnut veneers in a mid-tone brown finish, the case pieces feature stainless steel accents in a champagne finish. Such accents are seen on the feet and frames of accent tables and case pieces, on the feet and posts of a panel bed, the X-stretchers of a bench and accent table, and around the frame of a round dining table that seats six comfortably.
Other materials include a leather wrapped side table and a leather wrapped stretcher on a bench, Spanish marble on the top of a server and a nightstand, and a lacquered frame on a cabinet featuring lacquered leaf detail on its two doors.
“There is a plethora of materials and design that don’t necessarily match but that do complement each other,” said James Nayok, creative director. “The influences are super traditional. … We have just elevated it with finish and materials.”
“Barcelona, we believe, is probably the best answer to the need for defining what the New Traditional look is,” added Eric Graham, president of Jonathan Charles. “Barcelona has many traditional lines or shapes, but the collection is not over embellished, and the use of premium figured veneers sets the traditional direction in motion.”
A king-size bed in the Barcelona collection retails at $7,200, and the low dresser retails at $8,480. The dining table retails at $6,400 and each side chair retails around $1,296. Arm chairs retail at $1,424.
In early July, Jonathan Charles launched Toulouse, a 35-piece case goods and upholstery collection that offers a more modern design aesthetic. Both collections have 40 to 50 sheen finishes, however, which is lower than the more typical 70-sheen finishes seen on past collections, Nayok said.
As with Toulouse, Barcelona will hit retail in the fall and be stocked in the company’s warehouse in Winston-Salem, N.C. Dealers can also see the full collection on the Jonathan Charles website at www.jonathancharles.com and begin placing orders immediately.
